Abdul Khaliq

Naik Abdul Khaliq, service number SR/770567, was a member of the 622 Supply Platoon, Royal Indian Army Service Corps, during World War II. Born in the village of Tamma Ajaib, Jhelum, to father Abdul Qadir and mother Sultan Begum, he died on April 18, 1944, at the age of 21. His death occurred approximately two months after his marriage during the Burma Campaign. Due to the nature of the conflict, he was initially listed as missing, and his remains were not recovered. For 67 years (55 years to his family), his specific status remained unconfirmed to his family until 2011, when his records and memorial location were identified. So his family did not know that he was dead, but they believed him to be missing and had hope of him returning one day, but they ended up finding out in 2011 about his Shahadat. He is officially commemorated on Face 75 of the Rangoon Memorial in the Taukkyan War Cemetery, Myanmar, a site designated for soldiers with no known grave. He was declared a Shaheed by his family.
