How to Use

Setting up an account is simple: just create a profile, verify via email, and start using the family tree features. Adding or updating relatives is intuitive, and once approved, changes are saved. You’ll only need to register once—future edits or expansions are straightforward and easy to manage.

1. Register Account:
[Only for Unregistered Visitors] Click “Create Account” on the right side of the login bar. Fill in the registration form using a valid email address, then click “Register.” Check your email and click the activation link to activate your account. [If you don’t see the email, please check your junk or spam folder and mark it as “Not Junk/Spam”]

2. Sign In:
Click “Volunteer Login” at the top-right of the page. Enter your registered email address and password, then click “SIGN IN”

3. Construct a New Family Tree:
Enter a family member’s name in the “PERSON NAME” box and click “SAVE.” Fill in the names of the individual’s direct relatives (e.g., father, mother, sons, daughters) in the appropriate fields. Additional relatives (e.g., grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, siblings) can also be added in the corresponding fields. Note: Add only one name per box. If you need to start a new family tree while already working on one, click “NEW SESSION” or reload the page. Refreshing the page after your initial session is necessary to view the “Recent Sessions” list.

4. Modify or Extend the Approved Family Tree:
Use the Member Search box at the top of the page to find a member by name, ID, or part of their name. You can refine your search by including parent or grandparent names. Click “SEARCH” to display matching results, then click “SHOW” next to the desired member’s name to load the family tree. Note: A single, specific name search will automatically load the family tree.

5. Modify/Expand Records in an In-Progress Family Tree:
Select a session from the “RECENT SESSIONS” list to open the in-progress family tree. Records that have been approved or rejected will no longer appear in the “RECENT SESSIONS” list. To make changes, click “EDIT,” update the necessary information, and then click “UPDATE.” To add more relatives, follow the steps under “Construct a New Family Tree” Note: You can switch between different in-progress family trees by selecting a specific session from the list.

6. Include a biography:
You can add detailed information about each family member, such as photos, date of birth, occupation, sibling order, marital status, life status, name in the local language, address, city, country, and a brief description. Once you save a member’s name, a “DETAIL” link will appear next to their entry. Click it to open the Member Information Page and fill in any known details.

Your updates will not immediately appear on the Shajra website. Instead, they are sent to power users for initial review. Once the required number of feedback is collected, the update is forwarded to the Verification Department for final approval. The Verification Department checks the information against a comprehensive database of pedigree charts before approving or rejecting it.
This process can take up to six days. If approved, you’ll receive a confirmation email and your update will appear on the Shajra website. If rejected, you’ll be asked via email to provide additional documentation.
Note: If the email lands in your junk folder, mark the Shajra.info domain as “Not Junk.” The approval mechanism ensures the accuracy and authenticity of the records.
